Gas cylinders
Which cylinder size do I need?
It depends on what you’re running. A 9 kg cylinder suits a portable stove, braai or heater. A 19 kg cylinder suits households cooking with gas every day or running a geyser. A 48 kg cylinder suits homes and businesses running several appliances or commercial equipment. If you’re unsure, contact us and tell us which appliances you use.
What’s the difference between a new cylinder and a refill?
Buy a new cylinder if you don’t have one yet. You pay for the gas plus a once-off cylinder deposit, which shows as its own line on your order. Choose a refill (exchange) if you already have a Grid Africa Gas cylinder. We swap your empty for a full one and you pay for the gas only.
Can I exchange a cylinder from another supplier?
No, we don’t exchange other suppliers’ cylinders. However, we can easily refill your existing cylinders, or if you’d like to use ours, we can add them alongside your existing cylinders — you’ll just need to pay the corresponding deposit with your first order.
Refills and exchanges
How do I order a refill?
Go to the Gas Cylinder Shop, choose your cylinder size and request a quote. We deliver a full cylinder and collect your empty one at the same time.
How can I tell when my cylinder is nearly empty?
Pour a cup of warm water down the side of the cylinder, then run your hand down it. The metal feels cooler where there’s still liquid gas, so the cool line shows roughly how much is left. You can also weigh the cylinder: the empty weight is stamped on the collar.
Can I swap my cylinder for a different size?
Yes. You can request a different cylinder size based on your requirements and availability. An additional deposit charge may apply when upgrading to a larger size. A cash refund or credit note will be issued for the difference if you downsize.
Deposits and returns
Why do I pay a cylinder deposit?
The deposit covers the cylinder itself, separate from the gas inside it. You pay it once, when you buy your first cylinder, and it shows as its own line on your order. Refills after that are gas only.
How much is the deposit?
Deposits are $10 per 9 kg cylinder, $15 per 19 kg cylinder, and $20 per 48 kg cylinder. The deposit is payable with your first order.
How do I get my deposit back?
Your deposit is fully refundable once our cylinders are returned in acceptable condition. Contact us to arrange a return. A cash refund or credit note will be issued if you change your cylinder size or cancel your service with us.
My cylinder looks damaged. What should I do?
Don’t use it. Close the valve, keep it upright outdoors away from heat, and contact us so we can replace it. If you can smell gas, follow the steps under Gas safety.
Delivery
Where do you deliver?
We deliver with our own fleet within the Harare area. Contact us to confirm whether your address is covered.
When will my order arrive?
We deliver within 24 hours of receiving your order and payment, Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 17:00.
Does someone need to be home for delivery?
Ideally, someone should be available to receive and confirm the delivery. If this isn’t possible, please contact us beforehand to make alternative arrangements.
Orders and payment
How do I place an order?
Visit the Gas Cylinder Shop, pick your cylinder size and submit a quote request. We’ll reply with your price and payment details. Once payment is confirmed, your order goes out for delivery.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash, EcoCash, POS swipe (on delivery), and electronic bank transfer (EFT). Banking details are provided on the relevant quotation or invoice. Please use your full name and surname as the payment reference so we can match your payment.
Can I change or cancel my order?
Contact us as soon as possible with your order details. We can usually make changes before your order leaves for delivery.
Bulk and business gas
Do you supply bulk LPG?
Yes, for homes and businesses that use more gas than cylinders can practically supply. Send us your details through the business enquiry form and our team will come back to you with a quote.
What should I include in a bulk enquiry?
Your site address, what the gas is for (cooking, heating, hot water, equipment), roughly how much you use each month, and whether you already have a tank or supplier. The more we know, the more accurate your quote.
Gas safety
What should I do if I smell gas?
Close the cylinder valve if it’s safe to reach. Don’t switch lights or appliances on or off, and don’t use flames or smoke. Open doors and windows, get everyone outside, and don’t go back in until the smell has cleared. If there’s a fire or the leak won’t stop, call +263 78 408 8766 or +263 77 533 0563.
How should I store gas cylinders?
Keep cylinders upright, outdoors or in a well-ventilated space, away from heat, drains and electrical sources. LPG is heavier than air and collects at low points, so never store cylinders below ground level. Close the valve when a cylinder isn’t in use.
How do I check for a leak?
Brush soapy water over the regulator and hose connections with the valve open. Bubbles mean a leak: close the valve and replace or tighten the part before using it again. Never use a flame to check for leaks.
Do you install gas appliances?
Yes. Fixed gas installations — such as a gas stove, geyser or piped supply — must be done by a registered gas practitioner, who issues a Certificate of Conformity when the work is complete. Contact us to book an installation.
